What I love about teaching:
The moments. The opportunity to listen and create growth through understanding. Knowing that each encounter has the opportunity to positively impact a child. Kids will remember those "moments" long after their school days and hopefully that it made a difference in their perspective.
Best teacher moment:
Wow. So much love, it brings tears to my eyes as I type. A very young student was in a rage of frustration and brought to my office. Mr. Taylor joined us to ensure the child did not bolt out the door(s). Long story short, the rage evolved into throwing anything within reach, pushing over things, etc. - for 30 minutes. As the child began to lose steam, I sat on the floor repeating how much we loved this child and to just get that anger out - I held out my arms as the child folded into my lap - blessing me to hold and soothe this lamb while softly speaking assurance. The sense was that the child was too young for all that goes along with school and it was simply overwhelming. The resulting actions represented the child's "voice". After many years, this child is now the kindest, intelligent, sincere and amazing pre-teen. It is such a God thing and my love just grows stronger. That moment will never leave me.
Teaching philosophy:
Creativity is the essence of getting a child's mind to engage and expand their knowledge. Understand the capabilities and strengths of students.
What I would like to instill in my students:
Kindness, belief in themselves and the strength to resist the pull of negative social media, etc. I want them to know God has them in His hand and they can be a light in this world. My deepest prayer is for them to love themselves enough that they do not fall into bullying or negative patterns.
My story:
I am 5th generation Pittsburg native. My home is on the land homesteaded by my paternal family after the Civil War. Grew up on a 160 acre cattle ranch, surrounded by 3 older brothers, 4 older boy cousins, and ranch hands - I grew up surrounded by love and laughter and was a tomboy par excellence. I unknowingly ate my pet lamb, Lambchops, with mint jelly. Enjoyed being in theater in High School, tended to get along with everyone and not a "group" person. Long story short, I have extensive training from the top of the Corporate world, Medical, (including Behavioral Med)., Pre-school teaching, working in Pain Management and much more. I am married to Dan "Himself" 37 years and have two children - Lauren (29) a Social Services worker in Spokane and Ben, an IT specialist in Pleasant Hill. We have a rescue dog, Sully, and two cats - Gracie Lou Freebush and Dale Earnhardt Jr. I love the Lord with all my heart!
Hobbies:
Gardening, creative design, birds (especially Ravens), crewel embroidery, tole painting, going to the mountains, old movies (1930's, 40's, 50's), studying local, Medieval and U.S. history. Reading - auto-biographical, Biblical, historical, I love animals.
